The department lays emphases on academic excellence and offers students an excellent ambience to explore. The department has strong collaboration/linkages with premier institute like IASc, TIFR, ISRO, IISER, IISc., KAPS. The department regularly organises invited talks, certificate course, sky gazing programs and education visits to National institutes.

Nature expresses itself in the language of Mathematics. The department follows the curriculum designed by VNSGU and Mathematics as a subject is offered with different subject combination under the CBCS system. It provides opportunities to students to choose their career in various fields of research in mathematics. It introduces the students, strong foundation courses which are useful to students pursuing specialization in Physics and Chemistry.

It is the largest department of the college. All faculty members strive hard in laying down strong conceptual foundation amongst its students. The department takes extra step to imparting rigorous academic training by conducting various programmes such as lecture series on Nobel prize, Invited Talks, Certificate course, Industrial visits etc. The department has a long list of eminent alumni who have carved out a niche for themselves in various walks of life and have brought laurels to the department.

Botany is the science of vegetables – those that are not good to eat, as well as those that are. Since study of flora involves lots of practical work the department strives to go beyond the class room teaching and arranges field trips and visit to botanical gardens, thus helping students in experiential learning. It has carried out audit of all the major trees, plants and scrubs available on the campus.
