Admission Procedure

 

P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science, Surat was started in the year 1935 with the affiliation of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. It is a magnificent institute with all the needed facilities and required equipment. It has got a well-established library, well equipped laboratories, spacious playground, transport and above all, well qualified and dedicated staff members. All of these together help to impart a high standard of education to the society.

The centralized admission process for B. Sc. (Semester I) conducted by Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. The admission process begins soon after Gujarat Board HSC exam results are declared.

First Year B.Sc.

The college has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in all the classes. The candidates seeking admission in this college will have following choices of groups at B. Sc. SEM- I out of which one has to select any one:

1) For A group students, i.e., those who had opted Physics (P), Chemistry (C) and Mathematics (M) at the HSC level, the possible groups are : a) CPM, b) CMS and c) PMS where S stands for Statistics.

2) For B group students, i.e., those who had opted Physics (P), Chemistry (C) and Biology (B) at the HSC level, the possible groups are : a) CPB and b) CPZ where B stands for Botany and Z stands for Zoology.

3) For AB group students, i.e., those who had opted Physics (P), Chemistry (C), Mathematics (M) and Biology (B) at the HSC level, the possible groups are :a) CPM, b) CMS, c) PMS, d) CPB e) CPZ.

One has to give preferential order of one's choice out of these groups. The choice of the subject in the subsequent semesters will be based on this group only. So, one has to be careful while giving choice of the groups at B. Sc. SEM-I. Groups once opted for shall not be changed in any case. The number of seats in the college in each group is decided depending on the availability of the staff and other facilities.

Apart from core subjects, the candidate will have Generic Elective (which is Environmental Studies), Foundation compulsory (which is Language through Literature) and foundation Elective (which is NCC, NSS, PT and SAPTDHARA) as compulsory subjects.

Second Year B. Sc.

For the admission in B. Sc. SEM III, preference will be given to the candidates of our college. If the seats remain vacant after the admission to the students of this college is over, that can be filled by those from other colleges if there are any. In SEM-III, the student will have to select a group offered by the college which comprises of two of the main subjects which he/she had at the first year. The same group will be continued in SEM-IV also. The choice of the group is given in the following table.

The main subjects selected by the candidate will be called Core-1 and Core-2. The other subjects will be Generic Elective, Foundation Compulsory (which is English) and Foundation Elective (which is any one of NCC, NSS or PT). A merit list is prepared and admission are given only on the basis of merit and availability of the seats in a particular group. The Generic Elective courses offered for various groups are as follows:

Third Year B. Sc.

In Third year SEM-V, the students have to select any one of the two Core subjects that he/she had opted for at B. Sc. SEM III and SEM-IV. The same subject continues in SEM-VI as the core subject. Apart from this, he/she has English (H. L.) as a compulsory subject and a corresponding Generic Elective subject depending up on his/her core subject which is given in the following table.

Except a course in Mathematics all the courses have knowledge and skill components in the ratio 2:1. At Master’s degree level our college has programmes leading to Master degree in Organic Chemistry, Botany and Nuclear Physics.

Thus, we have a wide range of programmes related to basic sciences and all these Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree programmes are available for the international students too.

Eligibility

Under Graduate:

Any candidate who has passed Class XII (Science Stream) examination from a recognized Board will be considered eligible to B.Sc. SEM-I. Admission will be strictly on merit basis. Reservation for SC/ST/SEBC/EWS/PH will be as per government norms.

Post Graduate:

The admissions to  PG (M. Sc.) courses/programmes are given by the centralized admission committee set up by the University.

Following documents are needed at the time of admission:

  • 10th standard mark sheet (original + photo copy)
  • 12th standard mark sheet (original + photo copy)
  • 12th standard school leaving certificate (original + photo copy)
  • Attempt(Trial) certificate (original + photo copy)
  • Caste Certificate for SC/ST/EWS/SEBC(Non-Creamy Layer for SEBC) (original + photo copy)
  • Students from boards other than Gujarat HSC Board are required to present a PROVISIONAL ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE from the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University along with their application form.
  • Affidavit in case of academic break.
  • No AIDS Police Clearance certificate from Foreign Students
