Principal's Message

“Education is the most powerful
weapon which you can use to change the world”
- Nelson Mandela

Sarvajanik Education Society (SES), a premier educational institution, was established in 1912 and has 35 institutions under its patronage imparting education from pre-school level to post graduate level, covering a variety of disciplines including engineering and management education. Society also has under its umbrella two research institutions – one for Languages and Social Sciences and one for Environmental Engineering. SES has survived and thrived, solely on basis of the charity of benevolent institutions and individuals and has grown into one of the largest philanthropic institution of the country, where more than 35,000 students take quality education. Its objective, as incorporated in its constitution, is to spread education among people at affordable cost.

Since its inception, SES has been managed by some of the eminent educationalists and distinguished personalities who have high social standing and have laid down strong foundation for value based education. Over the years, SES has carved out a niche for itself as an institution of high reputation along with public faith because of its noble traditions of honest, transparent and democratic management. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was invited as the chief guest for closing ceremony of centenary celebration of SES.

Among all 35 institutions of SES, P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science is the oldest and largest science college, affiliated to VNSGU, Surat. As an octogenarian Institute, it has preserved the traditions and ideals of its founding fathers even while keeping pace with the rapidly changing time. From its modest beginning in the year 1935 when it was called M T B College, P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science came into separate existence of its own in the year 1960 and with passage of time it has blossomed into one of the premier science institutes of the South Gujarat region. It is always the prime motive of the Institute, not only to help students to acquire the knowledge of core science subjects, i.e. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology but also to imbibe a spirit of research. Institute has openly and willingly embraced changes, to be in tune with rapidly changing time, while upholding its motto of providing quality education to weaker sections of the society, that too, at an affordable rate. In this protracted, glorious journey, Institute boasts of shaping lives of a large number of individuals who have made noteworthy contributions towards nation building.

The huge and imposing main building of the Institute with Gothic architecture stands impressive amidst lush green lawn of the campus which spreads over 3.5 acres. The campus offers the best and congenial environment to all the students and therefore learning has become an enjoyable activity for all.

The Institute has been accredited with “B++” grade by the NAAC in the first cycle of accreditation process in the year 2007. We sincerely endeavored to amend the shortcomings, pointed out by the NAAC peer team and this lead to the institute being accredited with “A” 3.03 CGPA in the second cycle of accreditation in the year 2015. This unrelenting exercise of quality consciousness has provided has equipped us to review, analyze and introspect on the institutional progress after each cycle of accreditation. It has further buttressed our courage and rejuvenated our willpower to be the prime educational hub of the region.

The college was awarded the status of “Colleges with Potential for Excellence” for the duration 2016-2021. The college has also been the recipient of the Rashtirya Uchhtar Siksha Abhyan (RUSA) 2.0 Component 9 Grant to the tune of Rs. 2 Crore.

The college has proven its credentials by securing 5-star rating for three consecutive years (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22) on the trot in the Gujarat State Institutional Ratings Framework (GSIRF) carried out by the Government of Gujarat. This is a direct outcome of untiring efforts of teaching, non-teaching staff, students and all the stakeholders who have been collectively working as a team and undoubtedly prove to be a boon to the Institute in its march towards excellence.

I would welcome you once again to be a part of P. T. Sarvajanik family. I hope you will make most out of all the opportunities that the college offers and the time spent here will be the most memorable years of your life.
