Admission Information
Sir P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science, Surat was started in the year 1935. It is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. It is a magnificent institute with all the needed facilities and required equipment. It has got a well-established library, well-equipped laboratories, spacious playground and above all, well-qualified and dedicated staff. All of these together help to impart a high standard of education to the students.
The college was conferred with Autonomous status by the UGC and it was implemented from the academic year 2024-25 in Semester I of both the programs, i.e., B. Sc. and M. Sc. and it will carry forward in the subsequent semesters. This is an academic autonomy wherein the college can give admission on its own.
NEP-2020 is implemented in letter and spirit by the college. A student can gain maximum of 22 credits in each semester, by studying and successfully passing in different courses suggested in the NEP-2020.
The courses offered in the B. Sc. program, in general, are: Major Course, Minor Course, Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) and Value Added Course (VAC).
The subjects in which major courses are offered, in the college, are: Physics (P), Chemistry (C), Mathematics (M), Botany (B) and Zoology (Z).
The subjects in which minor courses are offered, in the college, are: Physics (P), Chemistry (C), Mathematics (M), Botany (B), Zoology (Z) and. Statistics (S).
For B. Sc. SEM I
The candidates seeking admission at B. Sc. SEM I in the college have to select any one of the following groups:
1) For A group students, i.e., those who had opted Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the HSC level, the possible groups are*: PM, MP, PC, CP, CM, MC and MS.
2) For B group students, i.e., those who had opted Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the HSC level, the possible groups are*: PC, CP, CB, BC, CZ and ZC.
Note: *The first subject in the group represents the Major course and the second subject represents the Minor course.
AEC, usually, is English. The basket of MDC and SEC will be displayed later on.
A common merit list will be prepared for admission to B. Sc. SEM I from the received applications and admission will be given strictly on the basis of merit and the availability of the vacant seats in the desired group.
For B. Sc. SEM III and SEM V
For the admission in B. Sc. SEM III and SEM V, preference will be given to the students of our college. If the seats remain vacant after the admission to the students of this college is over, such seats can be filled by those from other colleges if there are any. For this, such students will have to select any one of the following groups offered by the college:
Apart from these, they will have to study Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) and Value Added Course (VAC) as per the credit structure adopted by the college.
If required, a merit list is prepared and admission will be given only on the basis of merit and availability of the seats in a particular group.
Thus, we have a wide range of programmes related to the basic sciences.
For M. Sc. SEM I
We offer post graduate program, M. Sc., in all the basic sciences; Physics (P), Chemistry (C), Mathematics (M), Botany (B) and Zoology (Z).
A merit list will be prepared for admission to M. Sc. SEM I from the received applications separately for each subject. The admission will be given strictly on the basis of merit and the availability of the vacant seats in the desired group.
Note: Both these programmes, B. Sc. and M. Sc., are available for the international students too.
